In this video the teacher explains what depicting signs (DS) are and how they are used not just in Auslan, but used to break down all language barriers.

As a classroom activity; either as a whole class or in small groups, using DS signs, list as many of the sports played in the Olympic games (for example) in 5 minutes.

The same can be done for:

• types of musical instruments
• different animals (land or sea)
• chores around the home
• things you do to get ready

How many in each section can you think of as a whole classroom?
